Frequently Asked Questions

Chest Care

  • I am feeling respiratory difficulty, what doctor should I choose – Cardiologist, Chest-specialist, or Pulmonologist?

Very important aspect. We are always afraid of heart disease. When your respiratory difficulty is associated with cough, seasonal variation, allergy, sputum production, or fever, think of lung disease, and a Pulmonologist will guide you.

  • Same problem, if I have chest pain, should I go to a Cardiologist or Pulmonologist?

Good query. When the chest pain is related to cough, taking a deep breath, fever, and sputum production, and not related to physical activity, your problem is more in favor of lung disease, and you should go to a Chest Specialist or Pulmonologist.

  • Inhalers for cough and respiratory difficulty relief. But why do doctors press for regular use of this?

It’s not true. Inhalers are drugs that get deposited inside the air passages when you take a breath in. There are different drugs used inside inhalers. They are made for symptom relief as well as regular use, according to your doctor’s advice.

  • Are all inhalers the same or different?

Inside the inhaler device, whether it is a capsule, puff, or nebulizer, there are different drugs, and you need to take these according to your doctor’s advice.

  • Is the treatment for allergy helpful for asthma?

Yes, of course. Allergy is strongly related to asthma. We have to do SPI (Skin Prick Test) for allergy therapy.

  • Why should doctors do tests for cough and respiratory distress?

Cough and respiratory distress may be symptoms of lung diseases, for example, asthma, COPD, ILD, bronchiectasis, etc. For proper diagnosis, you need tests like Spirometry, FENO, Oscillometry, 6-minute walk test, and DLCO etc.

  • Are inhalers better than medicines?

Fortunately, we have some medicines that act locally, like ointments and sprays for pain relief and skin infections. Similarly, we have inhalers that act on the air passages.

  • What is the utility of vaccines in adults?

Vaccines are for protection against infections. We are familiar with children’s vaccines, but adults with lung diseases are prone to Influenza and Pneumonia attacks. Vaccines for these provide remarkable protection. There are also vaccines for Chickenpox, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Cervical cancer, Typhoid, etc.
